Hi all... beyond the concern about my left fork seal, i also noticed a few "streak lines" on the coolant hose (that comes out the side of the rad. and runs down towards the shifter). you can see in this pic the faint " sheen" of some lines running vertically - though often running towards the sides. It looks like some coolant had bubbled up and out of the burp tank (though i never saw any ...

Hey y'all, So I'm checking my forks, etc., for possible mis-alignment and bends, and have few questions for those more knowledgeable. I've already been through the FAQs and tried re-aligning things by pulling the wheel, loosening the clamps, etc. Question 1: Is it possible for the upper portion of the triple clamp to become misaligned with the lower portion? If so, what's the fix? My SHB's ...

I just bought a used 2006 F650GS with just over 7,000 miles on the clock. It really needed cleaning up, so I did some disassembly in the process. Inside the front chain sprocket housing were 3 or 4 small broken O-rings in the gunk which I assume are from the chain. Question: do I go ahead and replace the chain with only 7,000 miles on it? If so, should I replace the sprockets which look fine?...

some time ago I got a bit over zealous and painted the luggage on my Dakar. It definately stands out and yes I know all about BMW cases and their quality etc but that's not what this is about. . i'm trying to decide to either repaint the entire bike and cases to a dark metallic grey ( gunmetal, titanium, etc) or leave as is or repaint the cases.Bike is never taken off-road Whadda ya think?

My '97 F650 Classic tipped over yesterday after I had parked in the garage. Soft landing, though, fell over onto a bag of dirt I had in a box. I picked it up, looked it over and everthing looked fine. Went to start it today, and the clutch cable was totally loose, felt like it was broken. After further examination, I noticed that the "nub" which retains the clutch cable right before the clutch ...

It may well be there, but I can't find any reference to these in the FAQs. I see a lot of stuff about the donut, but not these blocks. I had the rear wheel off to replace a flat tube and the sprocket and three blocks fell out. Since I didn't actually take it off, I wasn't watching how the parts went. So how does this go back together? It looks like the sprocket carrier makes contact with the...

I have read the FAQs, but am unsure on exactly what I should be buying to rebuild my carbs. Ideally I would have all the parts I will need on hand so that I won't be waiting, bikeless, for parts to arrive. Here is my list so far: Diaphragms Piston Carrer Float bowl gasket Float valve assy Nozzle needle Venturi Main jet Idling jet O-ring set. Anything else I would need to replace? j

I'm tired of replacing the bulbs all the damn time. Anyone using the 1157 LED bulb? Does it fit right? (I see conflicting reports on the web). Is it as bright as the regular light bulb? Durability?

This is a serious post, not a joke. Make sure there is oil in the bike. If not, add oil and fix the oil light.

I almost burned my bike up today. The bike has been been running perfectly. In fact, I just got back from the NEJB a week ago after almost 1000 miles with no hitches. I have taken a couple of rides around town since then but no problems. Then, today I decided to ride down a fuel up. About a mile from the station the bike started bucking like it was fuel starved. I switched to reserve with ...

Hey All, First off: Yes, I've been through the FAQs & and I've worn out the ' search' feature. Second: I'm running PIAA 1100Xs, mounted on an RCU Light Bar, on my '03 Dakar. They are wired into the parking light under the front headlight (so they turn off w/ the key, as well as the PIAA switch). My Problem: The PIAAs pull 55w ea, or 110w of the 'available' 70w that BMW left us for any ...

I have an '05 F650 GSA, standard height and am slowly making it more off-roadable. So far, I have only done a few things, Fairing/engine guards, master cylinder guard and TKC-80s. Will progressive fork springs really help? Do you recommend tweaking the pre-load? What else might you do? (I can spend a little money but not so much that I would want to replace my forks and get an Ohlins shock ...

Also known as "...Officer, my speedo says I'm only going 40!" I've had the erratic speedo problem where the sensor gets mucked up and the speedo drops to zero and the bike bucks around. This isn't that. Everything under 40mph reads properly and smoothly. As soon as I get over 40mph, the needle starts freaking out and bouncing around and eventually settles right at 40mph. If I slow down ...

I'm getting ready for a trip in a about a week. Since, I've heard a couple times now of a wiring harness burning/melting on inmates, I've decided to go over my wiring for damage. Which wiring harness should I be looking at where there might be a problem? I checked out my wires that Rob Feature talked about in an earlier post and they seem fine. bc

Hi All... well, i'm considering getting a custom seat or an Ohlins shock for my 2001 F650GS... i'd like to do both, but am not sure i can (at least any time soon), so i figured i'd do one now and hope for the best... i'm planning an xcountry for spring 2009 and am wondering what the comparative PAYOFF will be in terms of comfort for such a ride with a custom seat vs Ohlins shock... again, i ...
