I've owned an 01' F650 GS for about a year now. The bike is stock other than OEM cases, a wonderleich high seat, and high Dakar wind screen. All of my riding to date has been done on pavement. I'm thinking of taking the bike up to North Georgia or Carolinas to tour the forest roads in and around the Appalachian Mountains for a couple of days. My question is.....can the stock GS handle ...

I need some body armor for my new riding buddy. Just for fun I set her on the bike to see what she'd do, and she didn't want to get off, she kept stretching to get her head into the slipstream. I've taken her a few blocks, and she seems to be really taking to it, leaning into corners and everything. I think I will definitely get her some doggles. Does anyone know of like a cooling ...

hey all, (this turned out to be longer than i had planned - jump to the bottom if you want to see the question) Some of you may have seen a few of my posts refing a possible xcountry ride (from NJ to CA) in the spring of 2009 (i have a work related obligation in CA that will last 2-3 weeks). I've looked into possibly shipping the bike there and then riding back or the other way around vs riding...

I recently bought, after way too much deliberation, 2003 f650gs Dakar. The bike has ~ 30k miles on it. I’ve been reading through the faqs and doing maintenance and cleaning and checking everything out. What a great resource! This is the largest bike I have owned. Have ridden 250s and below since I was a kid. In fact this is the only 650 I’ve ridden except for 2 other f650gs-es I test road while ...

We had a late spring and seems like we're having an early fall, fair amount of rain in the past few days. Went for a ride over a low pass thru the woods about 60 degrees F this midday. Right off I felt the wheels slip. Looked around, bright green moss/algae/slime molds working their way in from the south (most shaded part of the road) and even accumulating in the center (lots of traffic last ...

I expect to be in New Zealand, based in Canterbury, approximately 15 May to 15 August 2009. I am wondering about the prospects of seeing New Zealand by motorcycle during that period. I'd appreciate any insights along these lines from local inmates. Thanks,TB

Hello Folks, I could not stay on the outside for long. I am back. Time to get some TKC-80's and hit the road. Any good local (Bay Area) sources for the 90/90-21 and 130/80-17 (I have a Dakar) that are of the tube type. I can only seem to find tubeless.

Hi All... i doubt i'll get this answered/resolved before i leave for a trip in the AM, but thought i woudl ask anyway... here is the deal: i created a nice little route in mapsource (have a City Nav) for my etrex vista unit... using small roads, etc... then when i load the route, maps, etc... into the gps unit and call it up to "navigate," well, it gives me a WHOLE different routing.... ! ...

I did some quick searches and did not come up with anything. Here is my dilemma, and of course I am in the middle of a 3000 mile road trip and the nearest BMW dealership is 500 miles away. Here goes. Between 35-45 mph, the bike seems too bouncy. At first, I attributed this to road surface, etc. However, the problem is consistent at those speeds. After 50mph, and even cruising at 75mph it ...

I've been wondering if getting risers for my 2001 Dakar would prevent (or lessen) my hands from getting numb after about 30-40 minutes of riding.....or if maybe my gloves are just too tight. Cramping in my right hand has also popped up a couple times, so I'm beginning to worry about taking longer rides. Anyone ever have something like this happen to them......and what did you do to solve the ...

I just wanted to share some information with the gang. My little sister just published a book! W00t! In this book she shares her real life story about her illness and how she nearly died a couple of times (one time for sure because I was gonna kill the crazy little wackjob myself), and through it all rose to new heights in her life today. Needless to say I am immensely proud of her for ...
